The place: Midvale University, an institute of higher learning in the heart of America. The year: 2015. That’s the year when it all started, at least.
It was then that a group of hardworking and talented students in the university’s physics department achieved a breakthrough mankind had dreamed of for generations: a way to travel through time. A device which could take them anywhere and anywhen, a miracle of modern science.
After extensive testing, they gathered together friends and colleagues for the historical first human test of the time machine. If this worked correctly, human history would be forever changed. Possibly in more ways than one.
Yet something is about to go terribly wrong. The first leap through time will leave these brave souls stranded in history, with a time machine horribly damaged by the journey. Although still partially functional, they have lost the ability to specify where and when they will end up.
They will be left traveling from era to era, seeking a way to restore full functionality to their revolutionary new device. It might be the only way they ever see home again.
OOC Information:
This story will be using the rotating narrator format. Everyone is expected to take a turn narrating the story.
Each scene ends when the time travelers get their machine working and leap through time again. The narrator who starts the next scene gets to decide where and when they end up next. Scenes can take place anywhere in history. The group could even go into the future, or return to the present and see how their meddling in the past has changed things. It’s all up to whoever is narrating any given scene.
Though I’m expecting to keep this as a relatively lighthearted adventure in the vein of Back to the Future, the story could go in many different directions depending on what narrators want to do with it. Action, drama, and romance are all possibilities.
Natures, strengths, weaknesses, and subplots provided are all just examples. Feel free to use them or to write your own.
I want to try to keep the group size relatively manageable at the outset. We will probably start with 5-6 players. One character per narrator, at least to start. The time travelers might end up bringing along some people from history along for the ride.
