The year is 2066. Not that much has changed about our physical world, but virtual worlds and the power of the computers that run them have grown exponentially. Virtual reality universes have gained considerable popularity as the masses look for new ways to escape the reality of the mundane.
As you reach retirement and then begin looking towards the end of your life, you realize that you’ll do anything to escape the uncertainty of death ahead. Then you see a box with a universe picture in the background and the following words on the front:
CREATE YOUR WORLD
LIVE FOREVER
PLAY AFTERWORLD*
*This game requires a cybernetic drive connection. Product only playable after departing the physical world.
You’re in luck. You just got a cybernetic drive installed into the back of your skull last year. Rather than paying for the cost of a fancy funeral, you decide to get an account on Afterworld, the MMORPG populated by deceased souls. Their virtual consciousness is uploaded into a fantasy world created entirely by other deceased players.
Instead of death, you can strive to reach level 100, at which point your character becomes an immortal and can never be deleted from the server. In order to get there, you’ll have to find a loyal teams of other deceased individuals living entirely in the game. A team that you can trust to take you all the way to the Gate of Immortals.
Character Creation
I created this game to be completely player-driven. I want to give characters as many choices as possible in what they can do, who they can be, and how they can level. As long as you aren’t moving other players or directly contradicting them, I’ll be fine with you adding characters, locations, new item ideas, etc. I’ll also give plenty of options in molding your own skills in a way that progresses the game.
It would also be great to hear about who your character was before their death and how they chose their avatar. Please be as creative as possible!
The world for this game is fantasy, but feel free to throw in some technology as well as magic. Remember, it’s a virtual player-created MMORPG, so feel free to cross genres. I’ll throw in some natures for character classes and strengths/weaknesses, but I strongly encourage everyone to make their own. Try to stick to the provided subplots for now. I would like to maintain a group of 3-6 dedicated players for this game.
