In recent years, media presence has become increasingly important for business-owners. Damien Beuchêne, head-chef and co-owner of world-renowned Restaurant The Beuchêne in New York, realizes this.
Now that his father, Robert Beuchêne, has officially handed over the reigns; Damien is dead-set on changing the restaurant’s stiff image and putting the business out there.
Although The Beuchêne still holds a legendary status among critics, customers just aren’t showing up like they used to. Damien believes that this is to blame on the restaurant’s old-fashioned and aloof attitude.
People don’t want that kind of snooty “shall I take your coat Sir”-experience anymore: They want to be able to shamelessly photograph their food and get to know their waiter. They want realness, they want personality, they want to feel a connection and most importantly, they want a good story.
So, much to his father’s dismay, Damien came up with a plan.
He teamed up with HeatFlix, a new production company and streaming service focused on foodie TV.
The Beuchêne is to become the stage for a new kind of documentary slash reality show that’ll take audiences by storm!
(And help promote the restaurant at the same time).
Damien wants to give people an honest behind the scenes portrayal of the inner workings of a Michelin starred restaurant.
HeatFlix, however, has slightly different ideas.
They love Damien’s bold, artistic vision of “behind-the-curtains-realness”, but think the concept would ultimately bore audiences and believe the show needs stakes and drama in the form of a competitive element.
The producers introduced a new overlying arc: 5 chefs will join the restaurant’s staff at the beginning of the show. A camera crew follows their day-to-day progress at their new job, presenting them with different made-for-TV challenges. By the end, one will be chosen to remain at The Beuchêne as the new sous chef.
So sharpen your knives, contestants: This is the opportunity of a lifetime. Join the cast of Battle of the Chefs and you could have a real chance at the coveted position of sous-chef at a real Michelin-starred restaurant!
