Coldrinnick Manor is a story of intrigue set in a manor estate in Cornwall. Drawing on some Lovecraftian elements and motifs while not necessarily staying absolutely true to the mythos, the aim is to tell a damn fine tale of British horror in the post-depression era.
I’d like to keep the tone fairly serious. I’ll draw inspiration and reference from actual history and geography, although in-depth research is not necessary - simply trying to avoid anachronisms and stereotypes when possible.
“The letter had arrived some time ago - in a fetching script, you were politely and discreetly invited to Coldrinnick Manor, a stately home in Cornwall. The year was 1932.
You were a person of some note - your fortunes had dwindled during the lean years of the depression, but you had managed to keep yourself afloat. It only made sense that Sir Harry Trelawney - an older patriarch, and a man whose wealth seemed untouched - wanted to gather together a host of intelligent men and women with the desire to bring England out of it’s dark times. You were selected, the invitation said, based on your reputation, demonstration of resource and zeal.
At first you were surprised - you had never met Sir Harry, nor had you heard of him before receiving the letter. Discreet enquiries led you to believe that he rarely left his home estate, although it was not uncommon for him to entertain guests.
You eventually agreed. You would take a train to Cornwall and Sir Harry would have a carriage waiting for you upon your arrival.”
