In the late 22nd century the Earth was rendered uninhabitable, scoured of human life, by the Last Great War.
But humanity survived.
15 countries had active space stations when war broke out, and there were those on the ground with the resources and foresight to seek refuge in orbit as the first shots were fired.
Five generations have been born amongst the stars. Never having touched the ground, felt the sun on their faces, or breathed real air.
Today, that’s going to change.
About: This is a story about unjust imprisonment. About being shipped out of reach of everyone you know to start a new life in an alien environment (even though that environment is on Earth). It’s about the struggle to survive and rebuild after the apocalypse.
Setting: Post apocalyptic survival. While this is essentially a sci-fi setting those of you who aren’t into sci-fi shouldn’t be turned off. The game will be largely character driven and will feature the same sorts of survival challenges that faced colonists in the age of sail.
Tone: Character driven survival drama with touches of action, comedy and romance. I imagine adult content in line with a HBO series so it might swing into NSFW territory.
Inspirations: early Australian colonial history, the 100, Lost, Lord of the Flies, Apocalypse World, Durance, Our Last Best Hope.
Number of players: 6ish.
Player roles: Teenage/young adult convicts who’ve been selected for transportation to start a colony on Earth.
It’s worth noting that the orbital government is a totalitarian police state. All adult perpetrators who are convicted of a felony receive a death sentence. Convicted felons who are minors (under the age of 21) are imprisoned until their 21st birthday, at which point their case is reviewed and they are either pardoned or resentenced.
The government also has some pretty fast and loose ideas about what constitutes a felony (including breaching the one child policy).
I’d prefer characters not be hardened or career criminals (serial killers/rapists, murderers for hire and the like). That isn’t to say your character has to be innocent, they can have done terrible things and they may have to do so again. I’d just like to see characters who have a human, ideally sympathetic, reason to have done whatever got them sentenced.
Game Speed: I don’t expect this game to move fast, but I’d like it to keep moving. I’d prefer players who make moves daily or every other day during the week.
I understand sometimes life gets in the way. I’m a bit of a worrywort Narrator and I tend to stress if players go silent so please let me know if life is getting in the way for more than a few days in a row.
Similarly, please speak up early if the game is going too fast for you, I’d rather slow things down than leave good players behind.
Respect: It’s possible this game might go to some uncomfortable places and so I expect players will be considerate and respectful. Consent is paramount. The players are more important than the game. Consider this an x-card environment.
Card Art: Is expected, both for character creation and during play. Characters are in their late teens, card art should reflect this. Pictures preferred.
