Six years ago the Dark King Joric of Alvara launched a campaign to conquer Zanaam in service to the eldritch god Zukaal. Only thanks to Divine warning from Psions and Seers the world over did the various races and kingdoms come together to face the threat head on. Even united the Alliance struggled against the Dark King and his army of Infernals. Many kingdoms fell or were devastated by the war and the tide of battle only turned in the Alliance’s favor when black magic users led by Eorek the Necromancer joined the Alliance bringing legions of undead to the frontlines.
For the first time the Alliance could push forward reclaiming lost territory and sieging strongholds. In the war’s final months Alliance forces split with almost half marching on Alvara’s capital and the rest spreading out to secure the remaining strongholds. Victory was all but certain when Alliance forces breached Alvara’s walls and poured into the city. As the Alliance closed in the Dark King in desperation and spite activated the Rings of Ruuk, an ancient and dangerous weapon unused since time immemorial.
The Rings created a massive blast destroying the city and all forces save for those on the fringes, miles outside the city. The shock was great, but had another affect as Psions and Clerics across the planet, all connected with the gods felt as the blast moved through the ethereal. The gods are dead and new gods will form in time, but until then Zanaam has become more dangerous, what infernal forces remain run wild without restraint, enchanted wilds have gone feral and the worst of all a new threat has arrived. The shockwave that killed the gods attracted the attention of an army from the stars and two months after the Dark King’s war the Invaders arrived with their flying fortresses. A new battle has started for Zanaam, one that will forever change the fate of the world.
