“All the angels praying for me,
As I fall, as I fall.
While I am melting in the rain,
Deep in pain,
She is so far.
Will we ever meet again?
As friends,
After so long.”
-Lyrics from Pain by Blackfield
Overview:
Dirge of Eurydice is a Dark SCI FI Fantasy Short Story which shall empahsis the character development of a crew as they attempt to survive upon a darkened Earth. The overarching story shall be deep and thoughtful and the characters should reflect this concept throughout their journey as their characters adapt and evolve from scene-to-scene. Conversely, the setting shall be gritty and harsh as the only means to survive outside of Eurydice is within a WRAITH -a mechanized combat suits (aka mecha) and even those weren’t meant to last forever.
Story thus far:
‘Ere the world’s end Humanity, spurred by their hubris, failed to appreciate the gravity of their deeds which led to the destruction of their home: Earth. Yet, a day came wherein Humanity witnessed the folly of it’s irresponsibility and in repent cried out for forgiveness but did so realizing that no mercy would be demonstrated -the dirge of a dying world.
It was too late. The skies darkened, the wind became poison, the water putrid, and the Earth in scornful disdain shook in violent upheavels spewing forth wrathful flames.
Yet, it was not the end of humanity. No, humanity understood the ominous fate which faced the Earth and instead of attempting to alter destiny, like rodents on a sinking vessel they flung themselves into the Cosmos; looking ever back in regret till the memories of Earth faded and all was forgotten.
Our home had perished.
EURYDICE, a DAEDALUS Class Starcruiser, bore witness to the horrific events of what is known as the SUNDERING intimately. It was one of the final cruisers attempting to bring aboard as many of the populace as possible. Yet, due to it’s noble latency it suffered integrity damage and when it attempted to flee the Earth’s atmosphere the starcruiser was not strong enough to break through the atmosphere. As the skies darkened about EURYDICE in the tumultuous firmament, the brilliance of the sun’s light shined one final time, ‘ere the ship faltered and fell back to the earth. Most of the passengers perished in the foiled attempt that day … they were the lucky ones.
An indefinite amount of time later the stasis pods active, revealing a cache of the human population. You awaken once more expecting to be within the wonders of the Cosmos, yet to your dismay you learn that you are still upon Earth.
The realm of the dead.
Rating:
Mature Audiences.
The theme should be dark: individuals harboring dark secrets, people in desperation willing to commit any sin in order to survive, an enviorment where a simple mistake can be fatal. Adult elements are allowed but should not be graphically detailed.
Number of Players:
Since it is a short story I am only looking for a few members, 3-4.
Player Roles
You are a survivor aboard the Eurydice; that last surviving remnant of humanity upon this desolate world. In order to survive one must be willing to burden any responsibility required and commit till it’s end.
Of the most rejected tasks is the operating of a WRAITH. WRAITHs are mechas, which are the only means to survive within the harshness of the dead world beyond; yet even these machines are not entirely infallible. Just a minute fracture in the hull could seal the pilot’s fate permanently.
It is a dangerous task locating resources while traversing the deaden realms. Aside from attempting to avoid the hazards of the terrain there are the RAGNORS -undefined creatures that roam the darkness. For this reason few have the desire to become a pilot, yet it is a necessity which requires undertaking.
First Scene:
Chapter 1: Denial and Isolation
“Two coins were given,
One for me and one for you,
Yet, to pay the toll to Elysium,
One has to suffer death
In order for the other to pass.
Charon asks “Who shall it be?”
Who’s corpse shall remain,
Who shall be free?”
The rythmic rapping of rain against the hull of the wraith was bittersweet. A calming effect dulled your senses and if left to your own devices you would claim a moments respite, yet you felt a gut-wrenching feeling as the prudent aspects of your mind registered the danger of the beguiling rain. The rain which fell in this darkened world was highly corrosive. It seems your scouting session within this sector of HEL would be terminated early.
Incoming Transmission:
<<Moher: Bloody rain! -a hoarse cough- Sorry ‘bout that. Well seem we are goin to need to return. This rain is going to eat through the armor if we remain out here long.>>
You pivot your craft, correcting it’s direction to align with a return journey to the Eurydice. As you turn, glancing with experienced eyes, in the darkness you notice something shimmer as the flood lights of your wraith passes over it.
The audible receivers blasts with volune inside of your cockpit as it recognises that the horrific scream of a ragnor. You had perceived a ragnor.
Incoming Transmission:
<<Moher: RAGNOR! RAGNOR! Prepare to engage!>>
