I plan on deciding and starting the first scene sometime on Sunday
SETTING/GENRE:
Looking for 4-6 characters covering a broad range of 80s pop culture. Diversity appreciated.
Make your character a familiar classic ‘80s movie/TV type (lead, supporting, villains, comedy, action, and underdogs all welcome). Source character should be from a show/film/cartoon which at least purported to be set in 1980s America.
Note: Do not play the “exact” 80s character that is owned by some megacorp IP, for instance Jeff Spicoli. But feel free to make it obvious who you are modeling your character on, e.g. “Geoff Spumoni”, classy avatars, etc.
Be ready for them to take on Lovecraftian menace in a “rad” ‘80s adventure as part of a secret society of covert adventurers…like the League of Bodacious Posers or something.
PLEASE PUT A BRIEF MENTION OF YOUR ‘80s INSPIRATION CHARACTER(s) INTO YOUR WRITEUP. I didn’t get to see everything, and it helps. Simple as “Inspired by the dude in THEY LIVE” would be fine.
PLAY NOTES:
Prefer present tense for in-game scene descriptions. Flashbacks okay in past tense, natch.
I aim for the story to run 4 roughly equal chapters of (give or take) 2-5 scenes each. Each chapter will build toward a dramatic turning point discovered by us all in progress. (Though I do have some ideas…)
Since most people will have a decent idea what your character’s inspiration would do under certain circumstances, don’t get too precious about no one dictating your actions.
That said, Wil Wheaton’s Law applies. If you wouldn’t want someone to have your character float an air biscuit right as the Kelly Lebrock comes in the room, don’t do it to theirs either.
Some scenes may not have all characters in them, depending on how things work out. Sit tight, munch some popcorn, chat in commentary bar, and you will get to see some action in the next scene.
The real “Earth Prime” 80s timeline is not going to be strictly adhered to. I don’t care if Iran-Contra happened before or after Zaxxon appeared in arcades, and neither should you.
Hoping to keep the tone light and nostalgic, but still have some tension in between poking fun at the skinny ties and how ridiculous the idea of cell phones was.
