Once, there were dragons. Flying, wondrous beasts that claimed the sky and exerted their dominance on all the creatures of the air and some of the creatures on the land. Most of these beasts had mysterious powers that made the world better or worse place because of it.
These beasts had a special place in many religions, and some villages even worshipped them in fear of them burning their villages of the ground, as they did sometimes. But the dragons only did that to the worst villages, the ones that were slowly growing and dominating the area around them, and getting ideas in their heads that they could have more land, more power, more control over the world.
The dragons were a good force in the world, the one that stabilized it, the one that vanquished the bad and controlled the growing, the one that strengthened the weak and defended the weary.
Some special people, the ones who deserved it the most, even had a special bond with the dragons, and were known as the Dragoncallers. The Dragoncallers never used their powers for evil, as the dragons chose people who were pure of heart and that they knew wouldn’t abuse the great gift that the dragons bestowed on them. The Dragoncallers helped the dragons shape the world and control it, vanquishing evil and controlling the growing, strengthening the weak and defending the weary.
This all was happening in 500 AD.
Now, in the present day, 2021 AD, the dragons are gone, mysteriously disappeared. Long forgotten, only stories in the back of people’s minds. These beasts are never seen, and they only show themselves when things are going out of control and it is necessary to step in to stop bloodshed and mass destruction. The Dragoncallers are rumored to be extinct, and no new Dragoncallers have been Called in over a thousand years. The world is coming out of its orbit, out of its perfect state, into a burdened and wrecked state. The weary and the weak are being trampled like they are trash in the corner, and the strong and the powerful are exerting their dominance and gorging themselves on pleasures that may or may not be deserved. The world is truly broken.
But then, three people stumble upon a cave that holds one of the greatest magics left in the world, and they become Dragoncallers. The dragons are revealed to them and them alone, and together, they use their powers to make the world the place it once was.
