Even heroes and villains grow old and retire, at least the good ones do. The bad ones just die. You were one of the best.
In the good old days you went at it hammer and tongs, often destroying half the city in the process and then profiting off the reconstruction effort. But now you’re older and all of those grand schemes and shining ideals just don’t seem as important as living out your last days in peace and comfort.
Unfortunately your lifestyle didn’t lead itself to making friends and forging lifelong connections. You can’t call Bob from accounting or reminisce about the good old days with Maggie from HR. In fact, the only person who really knows you is your arch-nemesis.
They were a thorn in your side. They ruined all your plans, gloried in your misery and the monologues, oh dear god the monologues, if there is a worse form of torture then you don’t want to know about it.
But they were there. They know all of your secrets, were there for all of the milestones in your life and they’re not half bad at poker. Hell, now that you’re not trying to kill each other you’re beginning to find that they’re not bad company.
You don’t think you could ever be friends but you might not be enemies anymore either.
