In the not too distant future, a new designer drug hits the legal market- K17 Jumpstart. An amazing feat of chemical and bio-engineering, Jumpstart binds itself to specific parts of a person’s unique biochemistry and DNA, enhancing those traits to super human levels.
Requiring a full year of treatment to take full, permanent effect, K17 is a rich man’s dream, costing hundreds of thousands of dollars per month’s treatment, making fully treated individuals still rare several years after it hit the market. However, despite not being viable for the individual, government subsidies have allowed major cities to have a few of their more trusted officers to undergo treatment without bankrupting the city, leading to the emergence of ‘Supercops’ in major cities around the nation, with another handful worldwide.
Safer than it’s cheaper street variant, K17 is still regarded with some suspicions as there’s no way to determine what, exactly, it’ll do to a person until treatment has already begun. The worst publicity for the drug thusfar has been Shino Ita, a Japanese millionaire who had K17 treatments done, but ended up a mutant with a second set of every appendage, and a second head to match.
This bad press, combined with findings that the street variant (RQ112) has lead directly to an increase in mutations across the country has lead Pharmatek to begin a new ad campaign. A campaign to show that K17 is not only safe, it’s effective and can be used to create individuals who will use their new powers for the betterment of all mankind.
And thus the newest reality show, ‘Jumpstart!’ was funded. Eleven contestants given an initial treatment of K17, then made to compete for additional treatments throughout the span of a year. The winner receives the final dose, allowing them to keep whatever powers they gained, along with ten million dollars. The losers still get the adventure of a lifetime.
So that just leaves the question…Are you looking for a Jumpstart?
