The expensive paper felt thick to the touch and the eloquent writing showed deft penmanship and poise. The letter had arrived one day ago on 12 March 1938, the same day that Austria succumbed to Germany’s expansive gaze. Marquis Arceneaux, a well-respected landowner in the lower rungs of the French Upper class, knew the time was now to pursue something to change the tide of history. He had written to various well-known failures in the professions he required - he would use their failure to instil obedience to his cause - no matter the cost. Some in his circle mocked him, pursuing ancient relics in the hope of forgotten wisdom to overcome a looming, physical threat on the border, but the Marquis was unperturbed.
