The sprawl of Human life across the globe has been fractured and broken, the bones of the last great civilization abandoned and rotting after the inferno of nuclear war.
As survivors banded together, city states were founded across the globe. The land that had been called America now ruled by ten great barons, each holding sway over a collection of cities populated in varying degrees of luxury, by the remnants of of the Human race.
Time turned, and the population found a new harmony with their host planet, a distrust of the computers that controlled the war driving them away from technology, and into the hands of a more natural life.
There were certain luxuries that were not forsaken, such as electricity for lighting and heating; but all computers were cast out of this new life. The medicine of the new world, for the first time ever, combined the chemical sciences with natural sciences, providing an excellent pharmacology, despite the lack of computing devices to aid with exploratory science.
In turn, as science was shunned, Humanity rediscovered that which the ignorant named magic. And with the return of magic, came also the return of other races; elves, draconians, leonids and canids. And as with all outcasts, those people born with these recessive genes clustered together, building their own communities.
The strong prey on the weak, who in turn prey on the weaker. It is into this harsh reality that you are bourne, a curious mind and keen brain, looking to make sense of the strange things you have encountered.
