Portal fantasy (ordinary people transported to a magical realm - Narnia, Quag Keep, Fillory etc) has always been a favorite of mine. One of the first I ever read was Brian Daley’s The Doomfarers of Coramond, in which a wizard tries to conjure a “great weapon of war” but instead receives a Vietnam-era APC complete with crew. I’ve always wanted to see that played out in an RPG (roleplaying game, not rocket-propelled grenade)
The magical realm in question is my own creation, so you’ll be discovering it at the same time that your characters are.
Speaking of whom, characters are NATO military personnel on that fateful day when a wizard’s spell came looking for “mighty warriors armed with lightning and thunder”. Our heroes were participating in a readiness exercise that day (including carrying live ammo), so they met that definition to a “T”, got scooped up and taken to a fantasy world gripped in the usual Good and Evil conflict. Hopefully the characters will be able to tell which is which.
