We won the Last War against the mysterious Invaders. We saved our home, but we lost so much of ourselves.
The War didn’t just leave Earth in ruins. It showed us how tragically limited our understanding of reality was. The Invaders had no physical form, nothing that conventional weapons could touch, yet they tore the world apart with their mere presence.
Humanity had to use the Invaders’ own technology to stand a chance at survival. The nations of the world united against the Invaders, initiating the Tenno Project. In a secretive Academy, prospective pilots were trained to interface with experimental war machines, while the rest of the world still struggled to contain the threat. Millions of lives were lost.
Then, the pilots emerged. Not veteran soldiers, but teenagers, the only ones who could successfully control the new technology. They piloted mechas, massive machines that would have collapsed under their own weight were it not for for the crowning Tenno achievement: reactors based on Invader technology. They allowed mechas to fight Invaders on their own level of existence, eradicating them from our reality.
Finally, Humanity could fight back. The pilots managed to destroy dozens of the Invaders, but they never stopped coming. It looked like all they were doing was delaying the inevitable. Until one of the first Tenno pilots, Terra, sacrificed themself to activate the Nexus, an experimental device that would prevent Invaders from manifesting into our universe.
Terra never came back, but neither did the Invaders. It was over.
Humanity prepared for a second wave that never came. They stared at the stars, expecting them to take the shapes of their fears and nightmares again. But space was quiet. Slowly, they went back to rebuilding their world.
Without us.
We are considered different now, too altered by contact with the Invaders to be trusted. We can’t go home. Not yet.
What was left of Earth’s governments agreed to disband the Tenno Project, but they refused to stand down. Invader influence still lingered around the ruins of the world, with many areas left uninhabitable and permanently changed by the Invader attacks. Tenno could nor afford to stop, not when the War wasn’t truly over.
Hidden away from the rest of the world, it wasn’t long before the leaders of Tenno got into sharp disagreements about what to do next. Some wanted to go back to Humanity. Others to improve it. Others yet, to move beyond it. They split up into three factions, and their pilots followed - some driven by true belief in their faction’s ideals, others by personal agendas.
The factions were peaceful at first, and even cooperated. But there are reports of strange activity near the seemingly defunct Nexus. Prototype mechas are being manufactured, terrifying machines of great destructive power. How long do we have until Humanity identifies us at the new Other? As the new Invaders?
A new war is starting, hidden from the eyes of the world. And you are going to take to the field again. Pilot a giant mecha. Fight and/or flirt with your enemies. Change the fate of Humanity.
