For centuries, the inhabitants of Erafae have been at war. It is a way of life, an endless cycle of bloodshed and conquest, with dozens of realms and rulers locked in a constant struggle for dominance. It seemed that whenever two rivals finally managed to agree on terms and stop fighting, two others would take their place by sparking a new conflict. No realm enjoyed peace for long.
One year the humans and the elves would wage war against the goblins and orcs. The next might find the goblins and their human allies laying siege to the orc strongholds. Allies became enemies, enemies became allies. None could remember a time when life had been different.
Thus all were shocked when a decree came down from High Priest Paxamelch, the most powerful and respected priest of Orach, God of the Heavens. Orach was displeased with the unending wars, with the petty squabbling of mortals. He demanded that all conflict be set aside, and that a new era of peace reign.
This seemed impossible. Was there any way that the realms of the land could put aside their differences, their bitter feuds, and their deep disagreements in order to pursue peace? Paxamelch thought so, though many were extremely skeptical. Still, through sheer perseverance, the High Priest convinced the leaders of the various warring factions to come to his holy refuge nestled deep in the mountains to discuss terms of peace.
So it came to pass that kings, warlords, chieftans, and all others who would rule over the land came to gather in one place to discuss their hatreds, to see if a path to peace could be found. Was there any hope of finally ending the violence? Or would it all fall apart, risking the wrath of the gods themselves?
