It is 1985 and Al and Cam continue to struggle in their new vocation as blueberry men. Deep down, both yearn to return to the sea, but Al insists they belong with their acres of barren blueberry bushes. Cam is starting to regret their hasty decision to leave the Atlantic for inland Maine. To make matters worse, there was an unusual encounter with a customer. Cam thought everything was normal as he sold the lady some jam; however, when the woman smiled back at him, Al suddenly became agitated, insisting the woman was not actually human, demanding she leave Cam alone. The incident left the customer offended, Cam embarrassed, and Al on edge. Because of her unfriendly treatment, the woman reported the interaction to the Better Blueberry Business Bureau. The BBBB takes all claims seriously and in response, are sending an agent to inspect the blueberry operation shortly.
Both men can’t help but feel danger in the winds that blow across their lands, a smell of sea salt and butter. To Cam, it’s a sign the men should return to their lives as lobstermen; to Al, it’s something more ominous.
It means the 30-foot eldritch lobster Red Fred is nearby.
But how nearby? That is up to the experimental storytelling AI.
[.red fred II: deep trouble is a tale of commitment, crustaceans, and computer generated responses that determine the direction of the narrative.]
