In the 22nd century, humanity ventures into deep space in search of knowledge — and power. Some ships are sleek, shiny and have the latest technology. The Dauntless is not one of those ships.
In her prime, the Dauntless had been a state of the art compact warship. Now, she was cobbled together with parts of a hundred different ships. Anything that would keep her moving for another day with the air on the inside and the vacuum on the out.
The crew of the Dauntless spends their days scavenging the derelict wrecks that the legitimate salvagers can’t be bothered with, and patching their ship so that they don’t all die, drifting in space. With no vending licence, they are limited to selling their finds on the black market for whatever they can get.
The 6 member crew is down 3 members, leaving openings for anyone desperate enough to take them.
Several rumours circulate about the Dauntless
*That the captain is incompetent and tends to get crew members killed
*That the cook actually served up a crew member to the others to eat after he got into an altercation with the Captain
*That people who wanted or needed to disappear have vanished from the crew of the Dauntless, and were never heard from again.
The station was crowded. The air filters worked just well enough to provide acceptable air but not quite well enough to remove all of the stench of desperation and unwashed bodies.
This was Cadrion space station, where there was always a cheap bunk and a cheap drink available, for however much you had to spare. Even free, if you were down to your last dollar. Though free didn’t get you much more than a bed in a hole in the wall and a ration bar, Cadrion took care of its own and you wouldn’t starve here.
On the job board were several old postings and one fresh one.
