In the pre-industrialized world, humans lived in fear of the dragon. But in the age of steam and gunpowder, humans now kill the gigantic beasts in great numbers, to extract the rich oils in their bellies, oils that power the giant dirigibles filling the skies between Brilonia and its many colonies.
One year ago, a full-grown dragon attacked the passenger airship Voyeur. Phiz Morx, the owner of Sunrise Blimps and perhaps the wealthiest man in the world, used public anger to power his campaign of dragon extermination. His fleet of dragon-hunting airships have almost hunted the dragons to extinction.
You are one of the few people who don’t see the dragons as monsters, and want to save them. You will be leaving on the Skysong, on an expedition to the last refuge of the wild dragons, the mountains of Kyrsun. Perhaps you wish to study these majestic creatures before they are gone. Perhaps you want to capture the beauty of these creatures to win the hearts of the public. Or perhaps you think it is too late for anything but violent confrontations of the dragon-hunting airships that are sure to be there…
