For years animal shifters and humans have lived in peace. The kingdom was firm and all was well. On a surface level.
In reality most humans are terrified of shifters. The king, well aware of this, had married a phoenix shifter trying to show his people that shifters were safe. The humans still did not buy it though and continued in fear without objection.
About 20 years later the kings son and heir accidentally killed a man while trying to help him fix his cart. Then the kingdom arose in rebellion killing the king, his wife, and their son in addition to many other shifters.
Now, a human is king, and shifters have been living in hiding awaiting the day when they can have their own rise and reinsert themselves into the kingdom.
(Loosely based off of Prince Caspian by C.S. Lewis, although you don’t have to know the book or movie to play)
