Alexandra was not your average girl.
She was young, attractive, and in the world even those qualities were enough to escape the average title. But no, she was also smart, and determined, a very successful businesswoman for her age.
Then one day, everything changed.
Shirelle Mckay and Dante Erikson had no reason to know one another, having many many miles to keep them separate, and living in completely different social circles, their paths would never have crossed, were it not for a girl named Alexandra Brooks.
Their last memory, if a bit foggy, was living their lives as they usually did, nothing different, nothing special. Then, just as if it had always been, they found themselves sitting across from each other, in this stranger’s apartment.
They could speak to one another, and they did, but the girl, Alexandra, it was as if she had no idea they were even there.
For two days she never left her room, and neither could they. Everytime they tried to get away, they reapparead once again, back at her place.
It was midday on the third day, and the girl did not seem like she would leave her bed.
The two did not sleep, instead they sometimes vanished and reappeared hours later, but it was not something they could control. Neither could they interact with the physical world, not in an my meaningful way, they could turn the pages of a magazine if they focused really really hard, but that was about it.
Then, out of boredom, or exhaustion, she did something she hadn’t done in a long long time.
Shirllene began to sing.
Mental illness, suicide, bad indie movies, good indie movies, etc. These are a few of the things that will probably be covered in this story. So if you find any of them distasteful, even if tastefully written, you should avoid this. Stop reading now!
If you’re still reading here are some things to keep in mind. This will be a three character story, with a character driven narrative.
The first character, her name doesn’t have to be Sandra, she doesn’t even have to be a she. The basic idea is that this character will be dealing with depression, and suddenly one day these other two characters will materialize, characters only she can see and interact with. The character’s actual background can be whatever the player wants, with the only condition that once the game starts they surrender all narrative control over that background to the narrator. That is to say that if the player states that their character has a roommate named Steve, they should expect the narrator to take full control of the NPC. This just makes creating challenges easier.
For the other two characters there are a number of caveats. First, any challenge addressed at the main player–which I imagine will be a lot–they cannot complete, that is, they cannot fill in the last deciding blip on the challenge. Second, these will be full fledged characters from the modern time who have no idea why they are there, why only the main character can see them or interact with them, if they’re imaginary or real, alive or dead. They can try to guess the reason why they are there, form their own opinions, but they have no memory of it. This piece is important for all characters, do not worry about the why. That’s not why we’re here. Lastly, they too have to either be struggling with depression, or have struggled with it. And depending on their role, they’ll either try to help or hinder Sandra in her recovery.
If you need a frame of reference, of how this would play out, imagine the Eminem song Guilty Conscience.

Or even Quantum Leap.
It sounds complicated, or maybe I’m making it sound even more complicated, but PM me with any questions. In short, whichever of the three you choose to play, you are still creating a character who is having problems with depression, that is as far as you need to take it. Everything else will be handled when the game starts.
