The Claremont Academy is a place like Xavier’s School for the gifted, and is in Freedom City, New Jersey in the Freedom City universe. The teachers at Claremont, led by Callie Summers - a retired super heroine, and her cadre of teachers - many of who are also retired super heroes or reformed villains, are attempting to raise, train and educate the next generation of heroes to protect their home city, and eventually the entire world!
The Freedom League has long been disbanded, and the members of the Next Gen have moved on to college and other pursuits. This years class will hopefully have what it takes to protect the city of the future - and hopefully do it while maintaining their grades, and navigating the confusing and traumatic maze of high school.
This game expects the players to make up a Student (or in some cases a Teacher or Teachers Assistant) for the Claremont Academy. The reason you’re here is probably because you need help learning how to use your powers - and also when and when not to use them as well. One of the courses taught is Superhuman Ethics - and it is mandatory. This Academy is trying to raise the next generation of Heroes - not villains.
I figure a lot of the gameplay will be student living - a “slice of life” kind of game with adventures and superheroics, going at the pace set by all of us. If the game goes on long enough, the students will graduate and become adults - and the story will move onto college, or adult superheroing.
I intend to make the student body a living organism, and the teachers and students as real as I can - so there won’t be many throwaway characters. Feel free to make your characters any grade - from 9 to 11 - but let’s avoid grade 12’s unless all of the players want a grade 12.
If you’re playing a Teacher’s Assistant, you’ll probably be around the age of 22-24 and have just finished college. You’ll be a lot closer to the students in age - and they’ll trust you more. Also, since you relate to them better, you’ll be on the field trips with them - which means you’ll get into their adventures too. Full adult teachers won’t have that opportunity much, but will still be able to take part in a lot of the roleplay parts.
The Freedom League setting is a 4-color superhero setting with all sorts of Heroes and Villains - but none of the Marvel and DC ones we’re familiar with - so if you ever wanted to try and play a rip-off of a popular character, in high school, this is a great chance! Just remember, they probably aren’t as tough and confident as they are when they’re adults… Maybe they have braces, or a fear they have to get over. Maybe they’re alone - and need friends. Remember when you were a kid? How did that feel? How confused you felt? Like that.
Since Claremont is a fancy prep school, there are student uniforms, and the students live on campus in dorms. The boys and girls are not segregated by gender in the dorms - but boys are not bunked in the same rooms as girls. Grade 11’s and up get a private room to themselves, with a couch and TV. Grade 9+10’s get to bunk with a room mate.
More info will be included in the discussion area once your character has been accepted.
I may or may not use some of the canon characters from the Freedom League setting - it depends on the characters submitted to me for the game… I’m not going to have an NPC steal a players thunder if they have a certain idea in mind.
