This is a four-scene game, and is meant to be relatively brief.
Early 19th century, June. Paris, France.
Harvest failures, food shortages, and a stifling economy are crippling the people of France. An oppressive, disengaged ruling class provides no relief. Cholera has broken out in the city, decimating those in the cramped, poorer neighborhoods. And secret societies run rampant, spreading conspiratorial whispers of insurrection. Of rebellion.
All told, Paris is a tinderbox.
And on June 5th, under the heat of a blazing sun, the tinderbox ignites.
What is it like to be pulled into the insurrection? As a soldier, who is sympathetic to the people, and even the cause, yet has an obligation to maintain order, a duty to prevent bloodshed. Or as a radical student, tirelessly working towards a better tomorrow, to establish a governing society that treats individuals fairly. Or as a laborer, who works side-by-side with children in deplorable, inhumane conditions, knowing that something must change.
That, of course, will be answered by you.
This story takes place over two days, June 5th and June 6th, during a violent uprising in Paris. It will share the perspective of those involved in starting the uprising and those responsible for quelling it. In their hearts, these are largely well-intentioned people who have been swept up in something greater than themselves. It all begins with a single cry and a lone gunshot, and from there everything changes—tradesmen, laborers, students, and soldiers race along bloody streets, duck behind barricades, charge their enemies with sabers and clubs. In fear. And in hope.
And wondering what tomorrow, if it comes, will bring.
