Welcome to the Scientific Ecology of the future. Privacy is nearly gone, though with it has faded much of the social strictures and inequalities. The struggle is no longer against one’s birth race, gender, sexuality or religion, but the inborn genetic disposition of one’s capabilities. Warriors, Poets, and Surgeons are born, not made, and attempts at defying this are only pitied.
As science advanced the face of biodiversity and adaptability, and the culture advanced to embrace all comers, it was warfare advances which uncovered that we are all equally good at what we do, so long as we’re born with the genes for it.
Ultimately after the discovery of the Warrior Gene, it was uncovered that there are three basic subsets of genetics: Conflict, Harmony, and Individualist. From there the list was subdivided into six sets: Warrior, Cultured, Keeper, Caretaker, Seeker, and Creator.
None of this, of course, prepared society for the sort of activities folks might get up to when they spend their lives being trained to be superbly effective at certain tasks, but can’t find work in their particular field of expertise. In a competitive environment pitted against highly optimized roles a simple mistake, a minor crime, or some other blemish can disqualify someone for meaningful…or legal, work.
This is the story of a group of such Misfits, outcast from the working world whether by choice, circumstance, or deed; set upon a task for pay or restoration of their reputation.
A Mr. Ford has contacted the group through subtle and secure means and asked them to, with compensation of course, investigate the death of his dear friend Mr. Simon Redmond. The law enforcement ruled Simon’s death a suicide, but Mr. Ford is absolutely sure that this is untrue, and believes a criminal element to be involved.
The contact has arranged for a meeting to reveal more information about the event and the crew has accepted, though likely each for their own reasons.
Hello! I hope you’ve enjoyed things so far. If you’re interested feel free to submit a character. I’ll be running scenes as soon as I have four players, and I’m willing to take up to six. It’s in the story’s best interest for you to use the existing Natures, though you’re free to create new strengths, weaknesses, and subplots.
The actual tale will involve crime solving, though there will be cause for a variety of talents along the way. I am intending this to be a bit of a guided story, though I am extremely open to contributor driven direction. I have enough details to have the world, and story, react to anything.
Newbies welcome! If you don’t know much about Storium I will answer all the questions I can.
UPDATE: We’ve shed a couple characters in the story and are looking to rebuild numbers as we proceed into the story resolution. Feel free to message me about connections to existing characters or questions.
