Every day it was a coin flip if you lived or died, but somehow you always scraped through in the end, one step closer to the big score, one day nearer to when the Collective would come tumbling down and the billions toiling under their digital eye would finally be free.
That was the plan. That was what Ace Kimura promised. And you were so close.
But then they got to Ace first, right on the verge of getting into the Collective core data files and exposing them to the world. Her execution was broadcast live to over half-a-billion viewers.
You spent a year looking over your shoulder, wondering if Ace gave up your name or if the same traitor who sold her out put the Collective on your trail too.
You spent another year finally accepting that it was over. Maybe you found a way to cope. Maybe you didn’t.
You spent the last year trying to cobble together a new life. Maybe you became a hired gun yourself. Maybe you went off the grid. Maybe you formed your own little resistance cell to continue your futile defiance. Maybe you gave up and became another Normie.
It didn’t matter. It was all over.
Until tonight. When an anonymous dead-hand email sent you the cypher code that Ace died trying to find. The keys to the kingdom. A surefire way to put the Collective’s balls into a vice.
