Saheeda and welcome, enlightened servant of our Grand Caliph, Master of the Enlightened Throne, Most High Sovereign of the Land of Fate, the Worthy of the Gods, Scourge of the Unbeliever, Confidant of the Genies.
Tonight I humbly present to you a tale of our lands and waters, a tale which has not escaped the very ear of the Grand Caliph himself, a tale of dangerous desert crossings, of storms and swelling seas, of the tricks and traps of djinn, and the trials of men and women of faith.
Our tale begins, as so many do, with strangers joined in common purpose. Each follows the course of an infant stolen from his or her home, snatched up by a spirit of air through trickery or force, and carried into the sky toward the faraway Great Sea.
And each of these strangers sought the advice of a wise woman, a mystic or a seer whose divinations revealed that the creature made for Jazirat Lahib (Lahib Island), over the sea from Qudra, City of Power.
Whatever their individual stories, each traveler crossed the High Desert, Fate banding them together at oases and caravansaries throughout their journeys. Our story finds them near the end of the desert crossing, passing through the Mountains of the Lizard’s Tongue toward Qudra. There, disaster strikes their supplies and guide, and these strangers’ Fates rest on the cusp.
Maas Salama. Go in peace.
