The sky was dotted with stars–stars so bright it could be day. A gentle wind stirred the Earth, the only motion that stirred the tranquil inhabitants.
King Thorn spent all evening amply making his way through the acres and acres of mowed grass, feeling the frozen blades swish around his bare ankles on wind’s wings. A willow tree stood before him 15 feet or so away, but the King was not quite ready to meet his old friend. He knew that as soon as he did–he would meet his demise.
Malforls stars were aligned tonight, and although King Thorn did not want to admit it, he knew exactly why. It was his time. Yes, it had been years and so it only made sense that he now put it all aside. He took off his crown–so beautiful in the reflection of the stars–so elegant in the wind.
He had grown to love the delicate patterns laid by a professional’s hand. The soft gold shaped by intricate lines was what mesmerized the King, however; the whole ordeal was a magnificent artifact to begin with. But it was the diamond in the center of the piece that brought out a distant and vague memory….
He remembered the day he received the crown–the day his life changed like a blink of an eye. It had been a sad and twisted day. One he could never forget or come to terms with….
And soon someone else would suffer the same. But who would it be?
In King Thorn’s kingdom, there are sections of gifteds–people who are blessed with powers beyond dreams. There are four sections.
Section one: the strength section. This section involves people with increased physical strength. Some are granted speed, others flexibility. The list goes on.
Section two: the mental section. These people have the ability to hear other’s thoughts, some can sense other’s feelings whilst others can influence feelings and thoughts through words.
Section three: the spiritual section. This section of people can connect with the dead–it’s a difficult task, but it can be done. Other’s of this kind can also see into the future–and some the past.
Section four: the animal section. These people can shape-shift into animals. Some can speak to animals. Some can manipulate animals–even control them.
Each section has a variety of abilities that fit their category, but with every ability, comes a cost. These special beings have to be contained and moderated at times. Without a king–they’re lost, and the king’s time is near. A new king will need to replace him because without a king, the gifteds can be let loose from their cage and reek havoc. If they’re uncaged–normal humans and gifteds can be mixed–and chaos will be unleashed.
It’s true–not all of them are as evil as the normal humans believe they are–but behind their powers, King Thorn senses greed.
And greed must be contained before evil power infiltrates it.
King Thorn has a plan. It started thousands of years ago and continues to this day. He holds an academy in his castle where he teaches the gifteds and influences them with his own talents–for he was once a gifted, too. He teaches them how to use their abilities for the better and how to protect. He raises generation after generation to create a peaceful and humble group of gifteds to benefit rather than destroy so that one day–the world can be at peace with two types of beings.
But a gift can be a curse.
