One percent. It may seem like a small number, but one percent of people have shook the world to its core. One in one hundred people are Marked; they have a gift called Ejimi that allows them to use telepathic and telekinetic powers. However, the more powerful a Marked person’s Ejimi is, the less control they have over it. For example, someone might be able to only move a needle an inch, but they would have extreme control. On the other hand, someone might be able to level a building, but their control over their powers would be little to none.
The United States government, certain that they would be overpowered, spread fear among the general population, and being Marked became a crime. California used to be a safe zone, along with a few smaller places, but that was before catastrophe struck; the Joplin Incident. After a group of Marked prisoners escaped from a prison and into the town of Joplin, Oregon, one of them lost control and left a giant crater in the town. Even though the town was evacuated, shrapnel flew for miles, killing many, and rocky dust filled the air around the town, killing even more. Now, the Marked are taken into camps and executed. “Keeping them in cages has become far too dangerous. They’ll hurt us until we exterminate them like the roaches they are,” stated the United States president. And that was that. After California rejoined the US, all hope was lost for any sense of revolution. Forced into hiding, in attics, basements, or anywhere they can, the Marked must find a way to survive.
In this story, a group of seven Marked are hidden in a camouflaged bunker outside of an old man’s barn. His name is John Anderson, a kindly man who saved those he could before the US forces arrived. After SCARLET, a questionable company that’s sole purpose was hunting down and ‘dealing’ with Marked, began secretly taking over politics, and their CEO became the president of the USA, Anderson knew what he had to do. And it might just be the last thing he and his family does.
