Everything changed in an instant one foggy autumn morning. The 24 hour news channels had live coverage of an event now known as the Return. A magical portal had been opened in Central Park and thousands of creatures from myth came pouring through and the war began just like that. Magic had been unleashed upon the world and our governments responded in fear.
Mankind found itself at odds with its own fairy tales as werewolves, giants, orcs, dragons and more came seeking refuge from their own war-torn lands. Asylum was not granted and horrific battles ensued. Man was not ready to face off against magic and slowly, society crumbled and fell as mankind’s greatest weapons were unable to stop the flow of magic into our world. Both sides were ravaged and the very face of the world was changed. Now a tentative peace is found in the devastated former cities of man.
Welcome to the Helot, the city of leaning towers. You are one of the survivors; one of the few to remember the time before the Return. You found the will to carry on and a way to fight for what’s yours.
In this city, carved up by orcs, dark elves, and wizards, everyone gets dirty. In this story of greed and love, strife and survival, only the strong and wise may strive to weave a sordid web of intrigue and ambition.
Random Story Notes, Rules, and Stuff
First and foremost, I want us all to have some fun with this. If it’s not fun, what’s the point. To those ends, I will try to provide general direction, but will leave where this story goes, and how fast it gets there, to the team of players. All that I ask is:
–When you are writing a new entry, please make a comment first. Something as simple as “typing“ lets the rest of us know you’re making an entry. That way we don’t jump in and accidentally destroy the 2 hours of writing you just attempted by taking things in a different direction. When you’re done, update the comments to let the rest of us know. If we don’t hear from you in 2 - 3 hours, we’ll assume you got pulled away and anything is fair game.
–If you are going to write dialogue for other characters, make sure it fits who they are. This means you should be familiar with their bios. If you’re questioning whether a character would say/do something, bounce if off their writer first.
–As a follow-up to the last rule, if your character is written by another player and you don’t agree with the actions, please speak up. We can revise and edit as needed to ensure everyone is being represented as they deem fits the story and their character’s motivations.
–If you’re going to be away from the story for an extended time (more than a week), please let us know. We can work around absences and would all appreciate the common courtesy.
That’s it for now. If I update anything, I’ll send a shot out via commentary. Hope you guys enjoy the world. Let’s have some fun!
