Light. It’s all I’ve ever known. The ever glowing luminescence of our suns, Bernovi and Seronta.
The sister suns as we call them. They orbit each other and we orbit them. My people have never the need to fear of them going out.
Bernovi is the older of the two sisters. Her white aura blinds anyone who dares to look at her. She gives us the light we need to plant, raise and harvest our crops. She provides the energy that powers our way of life.
Seronta is the younger. Her humble blue radiance softens us and allows our planet the rest it deserves. Without her soft healing light, we would wither into nothingness.
Our light comes solely from the Sister Suns. If just one of our suns were to die, my people would be doomed. If Seronta were to go out, everything that we know and love would burn to a crisp is Bernovi’s harsh rays. If the opposite were to happen and Bernovi went out, we would be unable to grow anything and we would die from starvation.
They have been illuminating our planet since before my people cultivated this planet, four giga-annum ago.
Our suns have threatened to die before, and they will again. Even though their relationship seems to be in perfect harmony, the truth is far from it. You see, every millennium the same cycle repeats itself. For our beloved Seronta is far from perfect. She feeds off of Bernovi’s radiance, taking all energy and light for herself. She then dies from the inside out as she has no inner light for herself.
We would be long dead if it weren’t for Bernovi’s children. We call them the Sun Souls. As Bernovi begins to die she blesses a special woman, fertile or not, with a child. The child is always a daughter and it is her duty to become the next Bernovi. From the time she is born, she knows her duty. When she turns 18 she takes on full enlightenment and becomes Bernovi herself.
Of course, Seronta knows of the existence of the Sun Souls. Similar to Bernovi, she blesses us with a child of her own as she does not want to go out herself. Always male, it is his job to protect Bernovi’s daughter until she reaches the Age of Enlightenment. We do not know what happens to Seronta’s Sons at that point. Some think the son dies, while others believe he join Bernovi’s daughter to live together till she passes the title to the next.
Protect from what you might ask? The power of our Sister Suns is unmatchable. Beings from all over the universe travel to Feroko in order to take the Sun Souls. Thereby ending our very existence.
Once, long ago we were able to interrogate a being that came for our Sun Souls. The being told us that they hoped that by taking the Sun Souls, their sun would take on the Souls. We have no proof of this and we hope that we never will.
For now, we pray to the Sun Sisters that we will continue on.
