Star light, star bright,
The first star I see tonight;
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have the wish I wish tonight.
One day everyone in the world had one wish come true. 7 billion wishes were granted and the world was changed forever…
Most of these wishes were harmless, finding an extra $10 in your wallet or getting extra sprinkles on your ice-cream but a few were a little larger.
Parts of the world were shunted back into earlier eras while others became technological citadels. Dinosaurs once again walk the Earth, the aliens are invading and so are the Fae, demons and a few other extra dimensional entities.
Fictional characters have come to life, impossible technology has been realised and magic is running wild.
Some people wished to live in a magical fantasy world (they maybe didn’t think the outside plumbing issue through as well as they could have) others wished to make the next technological breakthrough. Historians suddenly got a lot closer to history than they wanted and a lot of people suddenly found themselves in possession of the winning lottery ticket.
For one day everyone had enough food to eat, the world was a peace and everyone was rich. And then the news came in, the economy crashed and the world didn’t just go to hell in a handbasket, it found the devil knocking at the gate.
Parts of the world are idyllic, others are post apocalyptic. Heaven, Hell, Hades, almost every realm is now unquestionably real as are many of the creatures associated with them.
And some people got super powers.
That was five years ago and a new world order is slowly rising from the ashes. In that time you’ve seen some amazing things and others that you’d rather forget and you’ve come to one conclusion: this brave new world needs heroes, it needs you.
Rumours have reached your ears of a brilliant (some say mad) scientist, one who is more concerned about where their next research grant is coming from than how their inventions will be used.
If you can find them then you can ensure that their inventions are put to the proper use. It might not be as heroic as fending off the alien invasion in Washington or the Zombie Apocalypse in Chicago but it’s a start.
