Welcome Adventurers!
Prologue
It arrives with the morning post. You give the postman a nod as he hands you another stack of letters, then bid him good day and return to your toast and coffee. Amid the bills and tax collection notices, one particular item stands out. It’s a letter written in a delicate hand of flowing script. The seal on the back is that of a castle with three turrets looking out over set of rolling hills, below which is a stylized arrow and the letters G.D.E.C.
Your curiousity piqued, you forget the buttered toast and bitter dregs of your coffee cup, and rip open the seal. The paper is thick and supple in your hands, and your eyes are drawn down the page as you begin to read that same flowing script you noticed on the reverse.
Greetings,
The Great Downward Engineering Company humbly requests your presence at a special gathering of adventurers and heroes to discuss an exciting and unique employment opportunity. You have been identified as a worthy candidate, and will be considered for a position within the Great Downward Engineering Company upon your arrival in Eastwych. As the Company is preparing to embark on a new expedition, we are in need of individuals with the following skills:
- Swordsmanship, and the art of battle
- Medicine, and the science of healing
- Arcanology, and the knowledge of the unknowable
- Outdoorsmanship, and a comfort with nature
- Archaeology, and the curiosity for things long buried
- Asset Appropriation, and the knack for concealment
If you are indeed in possession of one of the above described attributes, and should you like to learn more about this incredible and rather lucrative opportunity, please report to the Great Downward Engineering Company headquarters at 45 Lowwater Ave, Eastwych, in the Eastreach Province, on the morning of the 1st of Sarenith. Lodging and meals will be provided, and any travel expenses will be reimbursed upon arrival.
With kind regards,
Quinn Calaelen
President and CEO
The Great Downward Engineering Company

You give the letter a second read. Then a third, but more careful this time to pick out the salient details.
Gathering of adventurers.
Employment opportunity.
Lucrative opportunity.
Travel expenses reimbursed.
1st of Sarenith.
You throw back that last bit of coffee, wincing at the cool, bitter flecks of coffee bean that somehow made it through the cloth when you were brewing it earlier. It’s Moonday again, which means that it’s back to the regular grind. You’ve made a living this way for how long now? Longer than you care to think on for more than a minute, at least.
Exciting and unique opportunity.
You find yourself looking into some middle distance that you realize represents your subconscious desire to look toward the port. It’s late Desnus now, surely there would be enough time to catch a boat and sail up to Eastwych. You might even have enough to splurge for a nicer cabin during the journey. After all, expenses are reimbursed. The letter didn’t mention you would have to accept the position if you showed up. It didn’t even guarantee that the position would be given, just that you would be considered. What’s to lose? A month of more mindless work that is slowly but surely driving you to an early grave?
The last bite of toast in your mouth, you grab your cloak from the peg on the wall and head out into the wide world.
Time to find a boat.
Story Overview
Quinn Calaelen just found out that he owns a castle. While that might seem like great news on the surface, the issue is that his castle is in the middle of untamed wilderness somewhere outside Zelkor’s Ferry. What’s worse is he has also learned that it is currently inhabited by a band of Goblin squatters.
Determined to reclaim his inheritance, and establish the adventuring company that he has always dreamed about, he now seeks to enlist a band of heroes to help accomplish his goals. They will set of from Eastwych and venture out into the wilds in search of fortune, and perhaps even more.
Setting
The setting for this game is fantasy, sword and sorcery, medieval-ish period. I’m drawing inspiration from things like FGG’s The Lost Lands, and DnD/Pathfinder for general classes and races and whatnot. More details on the setting can be found in the “Info for inviters and applicants” section.
